Senator Bryan King and Representative Bob Ballinger want to discuss SWEPCO’s proposed transmission line with their constituents at 6:30 pm, Thursday, June 26, at the Inn of the Ozarks Convention Center, 207 W. Van Buren, Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
Asked for his opinion of SWEPCO’s proposal in a news article in May, Sen. King said, “I’m concerned. I think it could be potentially devastating in the area.” Rep. Ballinger said, “There are legitimate issues we need to be concerned with.” He went on to say that, if SWEPCO can’t prove the line is needed, he would be firmly against it.
This same article reported that Sen. King had accepted a $1,000 campaign contribution from SWEPCO and another $1,000 from American Electric Power, SWEPCO’s parent company, and that Rep. Ballinger had accepted a $350 campaign contribution from SWEPCO and $500 from Arkansas Electric Cooperative, a supporter of SWEPCO’s project.
Sen. King, a Republican, serves Senate District 5, previously served three consecutive terms as a representative, and lives in Green Forest. Rep. Ballinger, a Republican, serves House District 97, is in his first term in an elected office, and lives in Berryville.
